The better advice than 'Just be yourself' is 'Interpret everything about yourself in the way that is most favorable'.
Though the interpretation can also not be a total lie, cause you'd be seen as delusional.
For example, if you are ugly as fuck, you cannot say "The reason I'm treated badly is that I'm too handsome."
Better to say: "I'm ugly, but some people will like me for that."
