I would always aim to be smarter than to be better looking. But it depends on the evolutionary purpose.
The main purpose of an unusually beautiful person seems to be inspire others to procreate and pass on their genes. So, they become models or actors.
For the unusually smart person (genius), the drive is towards indirectly passing on your genes. That's why there is almost no genius known to have been a good father. These people either stay childless or their kids complain of neglect or mistreatment. Maybe there are counterexamples I haven't heard of, but it's not the norm.
So, I can't say that one of these two extremes is an automatically superior subjective existence, because it all depends on how the tools one has been given are operated with. Both conditions can lead to fulfillment and self destruction.
