At 15-16 I was hanging with some same-age peers, and the guys were asking each other "when did you lose your virginity".  They had all those weird sex insights that I knew nothing about (I had hardly watched any porn back then) and then some guy asked me "and you must be virgin right", and thank God he said this cause I was panicking and about to make up some ridiculous lie on the spot. 

It's better to admit be virgin than to lie about it because the latter is infinitely more cringe. It's not just getting caught in web of lies, I'd feel so bad with myself knowing that I have to lie about this.

But yes I always change topic like josh says e.g. one colleague asked "Do you date someone" and I'm like "No I'm very focused on X Y Z these days, yes it's unbelievably time consuming" etc
