can someone explain "reaction videos" to me?

in 99% of cases, it's just some ugly nobody in his mom's basement recording his face while playing some content, and the face isn't even following what's going on in the video. they are just recording ... themselves sitting there and looking at the screen. most of the time it looks like the video of themselves isn't even about them watching the content, but a random short clip they recorded separately

interesting question, its for the same reason that some people dont turn off the tv at night to sleep
