Did aoe2 destroy the RTS genre?

I never really played AOE. Prefer Civilisation 5 really.

I have saw some videos that RTS games are in the shitter now which is a shame. But I do prefer RTS games like Total War over other RTS.

Civilization is a fun game but sadly turn based, which is a mechanic I've grown into disliking.

Why don't you like it? For me it got a bit annoying as I was playing more fast paced games and got used to that

I get impatient and end up tabbing out and doing something else. I've got to small attention span for playing games in general these days.
