It seems to have solidified it's stupid game mechanics as the RTS standard. Gathering resources and constructing buildings does not belong to a strategy game. Spamming clicks and multitasking with your super advanced mouse and keyboard and huge monitor isn't tactics or gameplay. I wish RTS games were restricted to just being about combat, and whoever employed the best tactics would win, not some stupid sim city building apm dickmeasuring contest.
One RTS series that drew my attention was ultimate general. It was really fun playing the confederate campaign, too bad they are now focusing on building warship games. Here's some gameplay:
