[Theory] I've always failed to see how "Narcissism" is negative

i dont see how that's mutually exclusive. 

If I spend 20/30 years trying every day to make the right decisions,

then I'm not gonna end up saying: "I'm probably wrong, I am some below-average chump."

I'm obviously going to instead say: "Wow I am impressed with myself. So many people don't try hard, and I did."
