You can be stiff and fairly unimaginative and write poetry. It can be treated as a problem solving exercise.
Also, if you make a habit of regularly reading poetry, then you will improve your ability to think in rhyme and meter (so that it becomes effortless), which increase your ability to enter flowstate once you get an idea that you'd like to write down.
