Quote:A runway show at fashion week might go by in a whir—just minutes after the first look appears on the catwalk, the designer bows, the lights come on, and the backstage frenzy ends—but for the models, fashion week is a marathon, not a sprint. With many clocking 12-hour days over the seven-day fashion fest, many of these models are turning to a new trend to keep them fueled. The girls backstage are swapping out their nonfat lattes, espresso shots, and plain black coffees for thanks to PANATEA, a health and lifestyle-driven matcha green tea company.
Last September, PANATEA whisked up vibrant green shots of matcha backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs and VPL during the spring 2015 shows to provide some liquid zen for the models before they hit the runways. "Backstage is so hectic and chaotic," said PANATEA co-founder David Mandelbaum. "Everyone is exhausted from running around all day and matcha provides a moment to just relax."
Aside from the zen effects, matcha is chock-full of antioxidants and amino acids that enhance your skin's appearance, while its high levels of catechins help boost metabolism. The best part? Matcha has 34 mg of caffeine that gives you a sustained, focused energy for three to six hours without the jitter or crash of coffee. "The health benefits are why this is all playing into fashion week," said PANATEA co-founder Jessica Lloyd. "The New York-based models all knew about matcha, but some of the international ones were new to it and were like 'What is this? Does it have calories?' But overall it was really well received with girls going back for seconds, thirds, or even fourths!"

Quote:As matcha is a concentrated form of green tea, it has been long reputed by enthusiasts for centuries that matcha possesses stronger health benefits associated with green tea. Caffeine is more concentrated in matcha, but the main matcha constituent expected to have a stress-reducing effect is theanine. Theanine is the most abundant amino acid in green tea, and together with succinic acid, gallic acid and theogallin is what gives matcha its umami flavor. Compared to traditional green tea, the production of matcha requires the tea leaves to be protected from sunlight. Shading results in an increase in caffeine, total free amino acids, including theanine, but also reduces the accumulation of flavonoids (catechins) in leaves. Skeletal model of theanine molecule
Theanine's stress-reducing effects were tested at Japan's University of Shizuoka, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where studies show that laboratory mice that consumed more than 33 mg/kg of matcha had significantly suppressed adrenal hypertrophy, a symptom that shows sensitivity to stress. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences also tested the stress-reducing effects on university students and confirmed that students who ingested 3 grams of matcha in 500 ml of room-temperature water had reduced anxiety (state-trait anxiety inventory or STAI), than students who consumed placebo.

That's quite interesting, given that it has more caffeine than coffee but at the same time reduces stress (or at least it has theanine). I've never tasted it though. Do you think it could be a good replacement for Coffee, Kath?

look it up on the internet. Probably in one of those e-shops that sell organic products and spices/herbs.

Oh that's cool though. I could taste it. Have you ever tasted it?
By the way, sorry for going off-topic, if I'm not mistaken you're vegetarian and would be vegan in times past. Could I ask you how long have you been both vegetarian and vegan and what made you interested in this way of eating?
I'm very sorry if I used sometimes the adjective "vegano-faggot" in a generalized way two weeks ago, I was meaning anti-white folk rather than vegans and vegetarians by virtue of it.

It's ok. I haven't tried matcha yet, I just found out about it. I have conflicting opinions about the vegan thing, since I have changed a lot as a person in those 5 years I follow those diets. I guess the only reason I keep being on this diet is because I argued a lot with relatives about my diet (they weren't fond) and I don't want to backpedal now, it's an ego thing.
