i thought about "opening up" to people around me and let the "secret" (the fact that i picked up on alcohol is probably way more obvious to those around me than i think) out, but i'm afraid i'd regret it soon after. ironically exactly that is probably the fear that drives most alcoholics/addicts over the point of no return

decided to do this. i won't tell them i've been stuffing myself with 2l of wine per day for years, just that i've been drinking occasionally, with the purpose of falling asleep faster because the hypnotics stopped working. they can already read it from my blood test results and appearance anyway (bloat, obesity, red, puffy face), they are not retards

i can't tell how much i stink, and most people won't tell you that to your face anyway. specially when you are way above them in the social hierarchy

I've never met a heavy drinker that doesn't smell bad

I wouldn't use the word "stink" because it's not as bad as legit just having shit BO or people with bad breath
It's just damp and slightly gross, they might judge or can easily tell that you are an alcoholic
IIRC you drink 12.5 ABV approx wine so you should have a smell on you
Try taking a strip of tissue paper and rub it against your underarms/arm-pit hard. Then smell that tissue.

yeah, the smell is definitely there, i've just been coping thinking it's not THAT noticeable
but even without the smell, my face gives it away. it's red and puffy, typical for drinkers. faces of people who are just fat look different
