what is this movie suggesting? That 17-year-olds are not mature enough to realize what they are doing and hence cannot consent? Or that they are all stupid gullible children that can be easily groomed by an older man? 

1 most people are sexually active by 15 nowadays and 2 this guy is a psychopath and would be emotionally abusive to his partner regardless of their age.

I don't like 25+ year-olds dating teens but it's cringe to pretend it's for any reason other than it's not aesthetically pleasing for old men to score with girls who would reject them if they realized their worth.
