It's the concept of having someone show u unconditional love even when you don't deserve it. If each of us went full transparent on even our thoughts and emotions not even our mothers would be able to tolerate us. Of course it's fake and gay but if people coped like that for 2k years who am I to say otherwise.

Genuine adherents to religion exist, not every Muslim/Christian is a fraud with an ulterior motive. But most Muslims/Christians of today would be considered godless heathens by standards 1000 years ago
