it seems very ill-defined
what is fair to expect out of life, out of others, out of the society you are living in
by definition, it should be some outcome "proportional to your effort", but this doesn't really mean anything without a defined baseline
there was some reddit thread where people were discussing financial struggles
one user says something like "the US has gone to shit, both me and my wife have college degrees and work full time and we can't afford a modest life (a home, food on the table) for ourselves and our children" to which another user replied something like "wow, what an entitled post, most people in human history never owned a home and had to struggle for food, welcome to reality"
this seemed pretty retarded to me. i don't think it's entitled to expect a livable wage (yes, this includes ownership of property) from a productive job in a wealthy/prosperous country. i don't think it's entitled to expect basic kindness and respect from others either. i don't even think it's entitled to expect to have some average amount of "luck" in life in general.
yes, life is unfair, you don't always get out what you put in, and accepting this is reasonable... but expecting less? why should you? this isn't entitlement. expecting some degree of reciprocity or fairness from life isn't entitlement by definition.
i don't think this is just reddit autism either, this is a sentiment i hear echoed irl, usually from the older population

It is, there is no guarantee that what you're selling is worth 3 grand.
You also would not "guarantee 3 grand" for someone's product blindly

‘Entitlement’ is one of those words that has lost its meaning due to misuse by dumbfucks. When people use ‘entitled’ pejoratively, they actually mean ‘over-entitled’; being ‘entitled’ means having the right or power to do or have something.
Did a little research and, unsurprisingly, the use of the term shifted during the latter half of the 20th century, when the American government wanted to start removing social programs (‘entitlement programs’).

Now, there’s a lot of people with the attitude of ‘I’m not entitled to anything; I’ll work for everything myself!’ Which is fine if you’re living on the American frontier in the 1800s… But in every other environment, this attitude just leads to the citizenry getting ass-raped by government and corporations.

I mean ultimately you will always have a better quality of life over someone else. It's another word to incite conflict among people while subtly demonizing anyone who wants to rise above their current class.

even if you say over-entitled, who decides what that means, it still feels effectively meaningless or heavily subjective

also, just lol at anyone listening to anyone in power telling you what you’re entitled to. you aren’t entitled to a liveable wage, but they’re entitled to profiting off your labor. jfl.
don’t know the purpose of your post, but seems pretty stupid

yeah. i was going to include that in my original post by saying that, even if we take it as being synonymous with over-entitled, it's still a hollow phrase. it's just another way of saying 'you are asking for too much'... which would be fine, if people actually followed with a justification for why they think that it's too much; but, in reality, most people use it as a stand-alone gotcha
i was also going to say that it's a pretty effective method to attack others, as the 'entitled' person now has to go on the defensive and explain why theyre not actually entitled (because being seen as 'entitled' is synonymous with being seen as an immoral selfish freak), which then begs the question of: 'ok, so if you're not entitled, then why are you asking for something that i dont want?'
at the end of the day, the vast majority of people are brainwashed to repeat snappy phrases and hold dogmas that they have no thought-out justification for, and the modern version of 'entitlement' was a phrase introduced to facilitate a certain way of thinking that would benefit western government and corporations, while being hostile to the rights of the citizenry

hyper-individualist anti-social neo-liberal anglo-saxon capitalist babble basically. has absolutely no meaning in a healthy collectivist oriental society. if i am expected to partake in a society of course i'm entitled to my most fundamental needs as a man. what the fuck. that's like saying i'm not entitled to eating drinking and having a shelter
social contract is completely dead in 2026
