You want to ignore someone to establish a power relationship (if explicit, even if the ignored person has no reason to feel threatened by that choice, but often does, blah blah blah, I'm not here to analyse this dynamic), but at the same time your curiosity drives you to check what that person is saying, or you want to keep your entertainment experience intact, leaving yourself room to avoid that unpleasant surprise if necessary.
It's very convenient
