Some ignorant people choose to identify with the minority ethnicity of their great great grandmother in order to feel they are a special unicorn, even though they are the most ignorant outsiders of that ethnicity's culture. Also maybe get some moral high ground points and blame other ethnicities for oppressing "them" if that's what they are into.
