a big thing in this country is tall poppy syndrome. like people are legit prideful about living on the poverty line in dilapidated shitholes and make it a core part of their identity. do they think it makes them seem more humble or something? there's nothing wrong with making the best of a bad situation, but people here self delude themselves so hard.
