As in it just wasn't entertaining at all or trashy?

I'd classify these shows as trashy humor. Different from my previous recommendations like The Lighthouse or Whiplash where you can still think about the themes or plot for days or weeks after finishing because it's just that good.

if a supposed "comedy" doesnt make me laugh then what's the point? i find family guy funny, but ive never laughed at american dad

but i suppose a lot of people watch "comedy" shows or movies just to spend the time being mildly entertained by flashing colours and upbeat atmosphere. personally, i find down's syndrome youtube channels to be far superior for that

   Many years ago when both shows were only a few seasons in, I would have chosen Family Guy because it was unapologetically offensive, raunchy, and very dumb at times; similar to South Park.  I thought Futurama was a bit dry and cheesy at times, and would fall asleep to it.     

Eventually it's humor and writing grew on me, and I now greatly prefer it to anything Seth Macfarlane has ever produced.   As for American Dad, it's occasionaly funny but even worse than Family Guy imo.  

Futurama is GOAT, and it's a worthy succsecor to The Simpsons.
