if they are used for that purpose. the delineation between civilian "sporting" or hunting rifles and military assault rifles designed for war is completely arbitrary and based on irrational feelz to drum up support for various regulations, rather than any logical interpretation of the facts.
your average boomer fudd and gun grabber will designate the large caliber mauser bolt action rifles as sporting or hunting rifles while waxing apoplectic about the intermediate caliber ar 15 as a weapon of mass destruction.
but at the end of the day the 2nd amendment was drafted in a time where they had access to machineguns in the form of puckle guns, large capacity wind rifles, canons, and civilians could even own war ships. in fact the entire purpose of the 2nd amendment was to ensure that the people would be armed to such an extent that they would be able to fight off any enemies foreign and domestic, meaning an armed military with military grade weapons. therefore the intended purpose was to ensure civilians had access to ALL military weapons.
now if they had this reading in mind maybe they wouldn't have been so careless in competing with nazis and commies in developing adam bombs.
