users are pokemon
one posts in your thread (wild pokemon appears)
some have different stats (i.e. my pet has high attack but zero defense [tends to just run away after a 6 post exchange], shapeshifter has all low stats except very high special defense, bebe is a shiny pokemon with all low stats, high speed high defense like mvp, etc.)
some are more common, some are more rare
there are legendaries (me for example, obviously) and then weedles and abras
ghost types (me, shapeshifter), normal types (mogs me), fighting types (maestheticmaso), water types (cantwin), etc.
you catch pokemon (add to your circlejerk of tags)
different regions (different websites)
posting a thread is like going pokemon catching, a post in your thread, a wild xxx appears etc...

i liked to engineer threads with all kinds of combinatorial possibilities of themes, slang, keywords, capitalization patterns, phrasings, posting styles, title formatting, that would attract a different mix of users each time, getting different groupings of people in conversation with one another to see what would come of it. do all this then thrown in one unknown element, the gap in the system, the trace as Derrida would call it, and then let spread like a virus, like the color purple in that Lovecraft story.
i.e. there are x number of ways to make a group of 3 out of 100 people, there are y number of wayas to makea group of 5 out of 300 people, etc...
