do you think the terrible quality thing is on purpose? sort of like a "we're so fancy we're cheap" kind of move?

That's an interesting take, and might be the case

The ones I bought were not from the runway collection (which are only made in Italy afaik, and I figure are way higher quality).

Their other things (which are still turbo-expensive) are made in Vietnam mostly. But the quality is apparently horrible.

They do look really nice though.
