In my opinion literature is the highest form of art, so in your guys' opinion what is the greatest book ever written?
Science/Metaphysics not included in this thread we are talking artistic literature
For me its Lolita
Mainly because it was originally English so I can feel the art unhindered by translation
I dont care about philosophical concepts in books cause it never seems profound to me, social philosophy seems of low caliber to me I only care for physical philosophy or science but I'm not including those types of books in this thread.
I only care about raw artistry, and I dont know Russian well enough to judge Dostoyefsky etc and I dont know any other languages, so I can only really judge English books, and I dont care for the English translations of Russian books. Orwell and some others are good but the artistry in Lolita is the only instance in which I am genuinely impressed and touched by the language.
1984 is an honourable mention; particularly the first third
