why is the culture of this site so toxic?

if you pay attention, most users are just looking for opportunities to insult and belittle other people's input

and it goes way deeper than just the usual racism, bigotry or misogyny - everyone seems to be rabidly fixated on "debunking" other members' posts as cope, like we are in some sort of a roasting competition

why not just communicate in a civilized manner and look at the bright sides of bookism characters and their takes on the world, instead of bombing them with slurs, cynicism and dismissal of everything they say?

honestly, I'm not sure I want to be a part of such a community anymore
