you just proved my point. you should reread the OP, I already accounted for the bolded hypothetical situation. acting a bit reserved is the same as what I was saying and I implied there was some ambiguity surrounding this social norm

we're talking at cross-purposes here because we're visualizing different contexts in which the OP is taking place. for the record, im talking about casual interaction with normies, not close one on one friendships with them. this was inferred in the OP from the dismissive tone used when referring to normies (why would I be referring to close relationships with a group of people that I dislike?)
