There's a view that you should only get a PhD if you "need" it i.e. you can't teach without it.
They say, doing it without a need, would be like becoming a General without having any soldiers to command.
But I feel the opposite: mere bragging rights are actually 100% of the use case.
So in 2022 I decided to enroll it as a Joke.
Turns out it's pretty hard. But now I also can't back out because plenty of Morons have it, and I can't let them one up me.
Of course later, an issue might arise over how Well-Positioned your particular university is on the Shanghai leaderboard of unis.
