It was probably similar to the holodomor and other historical massacres in that most deaths occured as a result of negligence and/or war time attrition. the idea of gas chambers is honestly stupid as fuck I can't believe most people still believe that. Self evidently nonsense from how inefficient it would be as a means of execution.
