It's basic sympathy, what do you expect? It just so happens, but perhaps it's no coincidence, that most people are normal and have no way of immediately identifying, except in rare cases, um, particular differences in others. 
Ergo... people who aren't exactly nice will pretend to be nice, that's what society requires.
You have to adapt, and it's not that difficult
Feigning kindness or slightly clingy support (not a problem unless you are overexcitable) is an easy way to proactively engage in social interactions
