the current internet restrictions, government IDs, biometric data collections, surveillance etc. are literally nothing compared to what's just around the corner.
Trump's 'BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL', attempted to ban attempts to regulate AI for the next decade. Trump's buddies at Palantir would have loved that... an unrestricted road for the development and implementation of the most dystopian measures imaginable (but that's fair enough, because we gotta beat China in the AI armsrace, right? and the only way we can beat China is to become even more totalitarian than they are).
unfortunately for Trump, the AI moratorium didn't pass. nevertheless, many states haven't passed any regulation of AI, and BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars are currently being spent on megalithic data centres dotted across the American/European countryside. these are the things that are going to be used to rape humanity up the ass for the next few centuries (unless there's something catastrophic like total nuclear war).

in the meantime, i guess the peasants (us) are gonna have to make some sacrifices to reduce our carbon footprint - because these datacentres aren't cheap. but this won't be hard, seeing as they can already pinpoint the carbon footprint of literally every meter of the planet's surface. and the new data centres will come in very handy when carbon passports are implemented ("Oopsies, looks like you've already went over your weekly carbon rations!").
hear me when i say this: it's game over for human freedom.
