Russia fears this democratization because they would be next. So they invented false pretexts to invade.
Yet it wasn't the Russians nor the Crimeans nor the people of the Donbass who wanted to stop the self determination of Kyiv or Lviv. If was the people from there trying to stop the self determination of Crimeans and the people of Donbass. That is where the root of the conflict lies. In the end what goes around comes back around. Now Ukraine as a whole won't get theirs.
