I'm catalan and even though I hate to admit it you're mostly right. Our independence movement initially started out to recover our legal status before 1714 as well as our Middle Ages idyosyncracy (We had our "golden age" amid the 13th and 14th century), although it has mostly degenerated into a mostly leftist, anti male, female supremacist movement nowadays.

As things are quite bad I've sometimes thought some "autistic solutions", such as pair the very few remaining "based catalan bros" with european women that can digest lactose and live mostly as apolitical semi-nomadic pastoralists. But of course, given how things are as you probably already know it's an impossible thing.
