the general premise that men should provide without the expectation of anything in return is still true because women don't want to view themselves as a transaction and can easily sniff out men who think like that 

the one who wastes time responding to bait is more retarded, because he either doesn't realise it's bait (hence retarded), or he knows it's bait and actively chooses to engage with and entertain ideas about something he knows is not genuine so that he can debate with someone who he knows does not care
