recently ive been thinking that, although this loneliness/alienation sucks, it offers a novel experience that has only very rarely occurred in preceding periods of history. maybe sounds pretty gay and probably doesnt offer much solace, but whatever... 
there was a strange, 'magical' sort of feeling during the time my brother and my friends were away at uni, and i was by myself for weeks at a time

that being said, meeting with friends is one of the most enjoyable things in life. having a large tight-knit family/community is a great joy that we're deprived of in modern society
