the most important component of language is arguably not the words themselves, but characteristic patterns of intonation, body language, emphases etc...and these are not conveyed through text alone. A lot of people contextually use less "articulate" means of speech to more accurately communicate their emotion, and they can do this because native speakers have this kind of sympathetic or corporeal knowledge. You can only really master that in your native language. So what might appear on the surface to be a less articulate statement is just one that is unconsciously designed as to best communicate their intention or emotion, the surface level articulation or class character of the speech be damned. The words are a means not an end. Whereas someone ESL will naturally have a more schematic understanding of the language. For them words are both means and end. For example it was only by learning French that I learned the kinds of grammar terminology that we also use for things in English, but it's just so commonplace to be invisible for better or worse.
