Also it's not appropriate for people to talk to their fully grown pets as if they're still babies.
Your dog may be 8 years (which is, IDK, 56 in human years) but you're still talking to it like its a baby.
My cats are fully grown and I talk to them as I talk to human adults. There's conventions of politeness, address, and whatnot.
