A lot of popular high end watches lately are ugly but people pretend they are good.

Luxury watches are sold on the premise of workmanship artistry etc, but those guys with the loupes and tweezer are just normal people by all accounts and appearances. It would make sense to have a 100 dollar watch if the designer and builder were some kind of giga autist of the 1700s, but most watches now are designed by computers and built by brown or off white hands. For redundancy or convenience a 10 dollar casino is more useful, robust, reliable, than every rolex on the planet

My knowledge about horology is from subscribing to Robb Report magazine in year 2005
