Nuclear winter is almost certainly hysteria made for the purpose of preventing exactly what you're describing. There's a reason nuclear weapons were invented, necessary next step in human evolution. think of grains, vegetables, tubers, and all sorts of "food" that grows on the ground 
if you give any of that horrible thing to a baby, it wont eat it, in fact children wont either, nobody likes it
also we dont know what petrol is, but if its dead things in the ground then its exactly a more point to it being a cursed thing
how is that not obvious? and regarding petrol, you know its cursed from the smell of the fumes alone of any petrol related thing
