Why are japanese men seen as badass instead of nerds like the rest of east asian men?

Is it clever marketing? They don't get the same disrespect in the west as other asians. WW2 maybe played a role. Japanese men had to be seen as scary for the war effort.

there are several reasons

samurais, sumo, ninjas, ww2... the most well-known parts of their culture/history are martial

in reality, they're easily the most pathetic/weak east asian men. and i don't think most people think of japan as badass now; younger generations see japanese as weird anime nerd people
