Any german who has finished mandatory education will have heard about the Weimar Republic. It is presented to us as this flawed, imperfect democracy, that was created with good intentions, but unfortunately allowed Hitler to rise.

It mostly comes up, when people want to defend the current parliamentary system. It serves to remind the people how important it is to "protect democracy".

The cultural stuff is sometimes mentioned by the media. Usually in a glorified manner.

In regular conversations, it might come up as a side note in a conversation primarily focused on nazi germany. But I don't think many are very knowledgeable about that time. Including me. I only really know what I learned in school, which is probably propaganda.
