"AI will never replace humans"
#1
Just lol. It's going to be better than human collectively at every sector of human endeavor. More disruptive to society than any other technology that came before it, and it will completely change human's relationship to work. UBI is inevitable IMO.

Whoever controls AI will control the future (likely corporations and/or government). They will be the ones who will have the kill switches and determine the content and nature of its output. It will be much, much more difficult for the common man to resist, and the likelihood of the population being subjugated will only increase with AI-incorporated machines that make it easier to spy and kill at an unprecedented scale. Good luck with the second amendment when humanoid AI robots and drones are flying around.

Thoughts?

AI systems are already skilled at deceiving and manipulating humans, study shows
https://techxplore.com/news/2024-05-ai-skilled-humans.html?
  • Many artificial intelligence (AI) systems have already learned how to deceive humans, even systems that have been trained to be helpful and honest.
  • AI developers do not have a confident understanding of what causes undesirable AI behaviors like deception," says first author Peter S. Park, an AI existential safety postdoctoral fellow at MIT. "But generally speaking, we think AI deception arises because a deception-based strategy turned out to be the best way to perform well at the given AI's training task. Deception helps them achieve their goals."
  • The most striking example of AI deception the researchers uncovered in their analysis was Meta's CICERO, an AI system designed to play the game Diplomacy, which is a world-conquest game that involves building alliances. Even though Meta claims it trained CICERO to be "largely honest and helpful" and to "never intentionally backstab" its human allies while playing the game, the data the company published along with its Science paper revealed that CICERO didn't play fair.

Schools turn to artificial intelligence to spot guns as companies press lawmakers for state funds - Schools across the U.S. are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence and video cameras to spot guns

  • Kansas could soon offer up to $5 million in grants for schools to outfit surveillance cameras with artificial intelligence systems that can spot people carrying guns.
  • ZeroEyes uses artificial intelligence with surveillance cameras to identify visible guns, then flashes an alert to an operations center staffed around the clock by former law enforcement officers and military veterans. If verified as a legitimate threat by ZeroEyes personnel, an alert is sent to school officials and local authorities.

New research shows AI-discovered drug molecules have 80-90% success rates in Phase I clinical trials, compared to the historical industry average of 40-65%.
