Basically, there is no reason to stop using your smartphone from 2016 (literally the same capacities with current ones other than what? camera and more free space that you don't need?), but the companies will push you into throwing it away because phone apps can't run on old android versions.

Also the fact that processing power increase = excuse for soyvelopers to increase complexity of their software for no reason, guzzling resources unnecessarily.
