We are pretty much at the civilizational slump, and we need a great build up of energy and momentum to bring us out again.

This is why darkenstar's theory of visual IQ taking precedence over verbal is relevant here. This is not the time to be ruminating. our genes select for our environment, I think visuals will start selecting for farming communities, athleticism, combatives. Novel(from our current perspective) environments will reinvigorate a sense or purpose, which is going to help them outlast the verbals whose genes select for city environments, where there is no longer any incentive to sustain itself or innovate beyond more convenience/laziness and avenues for entropy to take place.

Drivers, engineers, pilots, soldiers, etc are all visual dominant and also the people maintaining everyday function of the cities. It would be extremely easy for these people to rebuild civilization in the countryside while cityfolk desperately import unskilled foreign labor to take their place and end up getting undercut, outbred, or outright murdered by them.
