Avoiding the military is part of the reason why im prologuing my studies even tho I've technically dropped out by now. Mercenaries are illegal by the way, only way you could become one is under some gigacorrupt dictator that doesnt care about your life anyway (see wagner, ypg in Libya and Azerbaijan). And they are hiring people with combat experience anyway.
