Britain has always been more hard-headed than the continent, and less inclined to rely on mumbo-jumbo to back up their positions. Maybe to do with conservatism or Protestantism or something, idk. An interesting question

I wouldn't say protestantism as in protestant spots of the european continent rationalism still thrived. Maybe the different systems of law influenced philosophical tendencies, or maybe british isolation from the continent could have had something to do with it.
