mirin ms word 2010 and flat monitors btw. When I graduated hs in 2016 we still had those box monitors from the past century, together with ms word 2003 (the best ever).

My mom refuses to throwaway that shit box, she needs my help still for printing out documents sometimes

HDD so faulty, the slightest movement of the chassis will cause a crash

old hardware must go through some erosion with time, because it clearly becomes unuseable after 15-20 years, no matter how well preserved it is.

I've noticed the same with the old pc at my parents house (bought in 2005), it barely runs these days. And also the HP laptop I posted the other day (I rarely use it), it barely runs and often shuts down.

I'm very interested in getting to know hardware stuff in depth at some point in the future. I don't like this fog of doubt.

Pretty much yeah, just a few weeks ago the acer laptop that I've used since I was 3-ish completely died out on me.

Started with the hard drive, fixed that. Then the speakers had a crunch to it, whatever. Few weeks ago and now it just won't charge. Assume it's the battery issue since that beast dies out basically instantly while being unplugged. Not sure if I can find a replacement for the battery so I salvaged the ram sticks and the hard-drive and placed them elsewhere. Then retired it in some cupboard.

It's a shame, I love playing with all my older tech, certain nostalgic feeling.

most definitely motherboard issue

I have the same thing on my current (8 year old) laptop

laptops have a life expectancy of 3-5 years btw

that's why I'll be buying a desktop computer after my laptop is done for good

Really? Damn, I thought I got unlucky when my 4 year old Acer Nitro 5 CPU/MOBO just gave up randomly while I was watching a movie.
