This reminds me of the suppressor vs silencer argument I recently had at the local gun shop. Everyone in my day referred to it as silencer because it was the common term used in movies and popular culture, but recently around maybe a decade ago these younger generation types started coming into the gun space talking about how proper term is suppressor because the shot isn't "silenced", lo and behold the first "suppressor" was litrally called the silencer by its inventor.
It just goes to show words are not 100% reflective of reality. Although my thoughts on the matter is you should still strive to be accurate and precise, but know that the alternative spelling or grammar is valid as well

i dont get the point of using a transitive verb intransitively when there are plenty of intransitive synonyms already.
yes, i also looked into it and saw that some people accept it, but imo it is clearly technically wrong and doesn’t actually add anything to the language

until you try to have an epic debate on twitter and suddenly realise that it's impossible because language has become entirely loose and vague, with people having almost completely lost the ability for verbal precision, and can only talk to each other (or even think) using simple catchphrases/memes

i mean understand in a deeper sense, i.e. more than just knowing what the random string of words that has been used convey independently. it has to be cohesive
