can you believe it, back in 2013-14 I was arguing with a guy at school, who said "you have to pay to subscribe to youtube channels so I'm not subscribing to anybony" and I said obviously that's not true since I'm subscribed to plenty. Which is an interesting foreshadowing because a paid subscription feature was added some ~10 years later.

i miss subscriptions to magazines and actual services 

especially when they had little toys in the magazines 

it was too legit, much better way to digest and receive information because everything had to compete to be included in each issue and u can choose exactly what type of magazine/audience u want to be 

now we have to sift through mountains of garbage to find something remotely relevant and most scientific info is paywalled gg

idk about that, maybe it feels this way because your array of options was more limited (sort of a paradox of choice application). now availability of data surpasses your ability to consume it and many end up e-hoarding (I found out that's a thing pretty recently).

idk its even an issue in research where publications change what they produce to be more sensational/clickbatey cuz theyre trying to compete

and the studies end up non replicable + garbage
