In fact, only one frog emerged
from the water (clearly an
enormous frog, as it covered all
of Egypt). This one frog was
then hit repeatedly, but rather
than dying of its wounds or
beating a retreat, it multiplied
or reproduced spontaneously,
"streaming forth swarms and
swarms of frogs".
