This point often thrown around a lot is that girls love when a guy has good relationship with his parents especially his mother.
What this concern really amounts to is an unconscious litimus test of the following:
1. A good relationship with your parents signals no residual baggage from improper resolution of the Oedipus complex, which would get replayed in a romantic relationship. If you don't have good relationships with your parents it's because you have trauma and she would inevitably have to deal with your trauma. The second she picks up on this trauma she will say something like "omg he yells at his mom he's so evil" and leave so she can defer her own guilt for not wanting to sympathize with his familial situation to the guy.
2. If his mother is just an objectively horrible one, then his maintaining a relationship with her signals he has low self esteem and lack of boundaries. This can be an added security or an ick for the girl depending on her own perceived self worth and complexes. If he is better than her in other respects she'll see this as a sign she can bag him easier ("omg this hot guy seems so much more accessible now") and if she is better than him she will get the ick by his tolerating his mother's behavior ("what a loser he lets her treat him like this")
Basically, if you didn't have an ideal family situation, you can't win. You lose whether you keep in contact with your parents or not.You're better off just pretending like you have perfect relationships with your parents to any romantic prospects.
