they extoll the virtues of democracy and a free society but then balk when people use that freedom to question things; or for themselves they never fully exercise their own hypothetical freedom and try thinking outside of the box. why are normies so terrified of things that are non-mainstream?

cause they don't actually want those things. I would argue over 90% of modern people would trade freedom for assured food, roof, and safety. you have to understand that the natural state of humans is that a few strong ones exploit and use the rest and the rest are happy with just surviving and not being killed.
