in the us when u do a non scam phd they give u free tuition and then also a stipend ontop of that for living expenses etc but u have to do research in the lab and some teaching
can be like 20-50k yearly given to u

yeah the tuition cost for public universities is covered by the state, same as u described, I think u are given a small monthly wage to cover your expenses, not sure whats the total amount
