If you describe to them the hypothetical scenario of all living organisms hooked up to happiness machines they will react negatively
ie they dont actually care about the wellbeing of nature and animals, they just get satisfaction/pleasure from being in an environment with little to no (visible) human intervention

Most of the world’s soya is grown for the meat industry. Only 6% of the soya grown globally is eaten by humans. 90% of all soya is fed to chickens, pigs and cows. (The rest is used for things like pet food and biofuels.)

That reply is not relevant and completely misses the point
many environmentalists pursue it for the pleasure of seeing the world the way they want more than caring for the wellbeing of organisms. Nature is a very brutal place and human intervention can certainly optimise the happiness levels of all life above the status quo
